64 teams (36 clubs from the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga and 28 teams from the lower leagues) compete in five rounds to reach the final. Games are played from August to April, with the cup final taking place in May. The DFB Cup winner qualifies for the UEFA Europa League.

For the final in the Olympic Stadium, the Stuttgart fans will be located in the east curve, while the Bielefeld fans will be positioned at the Marathon Gate. VfB Stuttgart officially has home ground, so the Stuttgart fans will use the stadium's home stand.

The demand for tickets for the DFB Cup final is very high every year. The application phase for the 2025 DFB Cup final has ended and the stadium is sold out. Due to the high demand, tickets are allocated by lottery every year. Soccer fans were able to apply for a maximum of four tickets from the German Football Association (DFB).

Large fan meetings are held every year in the run-up to the match. In 2025, Stuttgart fans will meet from 10 a.m. on Breitscheidplatz at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. Arminia fans will hold their fan festival at Alexanderplatz from 10 a.m. before the final. There will be no public viewing on site.
