The area under the bridge at Wuhlheide in Å·ÃÀÊìÅ®ÂÒÂ×-Oberschöneweide has been completely closed to traffic with immediate effect.

This was announced by the transport administration. The bridge itself has been closed to vehicle traffic since the end of April after damage was discovered.

Failure of the structure cannot be ruled out

"In the ongoing inspections of the bridge structure since then, it must now be assumed that a failure of the structure can no longer be ruled out due to the current damage pattern," said the transport administration. For this reason, a closure of the traffic running under the bridge on Edisonstraße/Treskowallee has been arranged. Unfortunately, this means that traffic restrictions are unavoidable. This affects cars and lorries as well as trams. Pedestrian and cycle traffic is also no longer possible under the bridge.

Crisis team is set up

The transport administration announced that a crisis team would be set up involving the police and fire brigade, BVG, traffic management and the district. All possibilities are to be examined to minimise the considerable impact on traffic. "At the same time, the civil engineering department will consider all technical options to minimise the consequences as quickly as possible, up to and including the immediate demolition of the bridge."

Changes in local transport

There will be adjustments to tram services on lines M17, 21, 27, 37 and 67. For example, an extension of line 67 is planned to make it easier to change to suburban trains.
