Å·ÃÀÊìÅ®ÂÒÂ× introduces new Master's degree program in teaching

School workplace

Å·ÃÀÊìÅ®ÂÒÂ× is breaking new ground in teacher training. A so-called Flex Master's degree for student teachers who are already working at a school at the same time is set to start in the winter semester of 2026/2027, as jointly announced by the university and education administration.

It should be easier to reconcile the two in future.  In addition to the previous model with a practical phase in the third Master's semester, the new model will give students the opportunity to combine an employment contract at a school with an extended practical semester at the same school.

Making teacher training programs more flexible

Science Senator Ina Czyborra (SPD) pointed out the rising cost of living and the shortage of teachers in Å·ÃÀÊìÅ®ÂÒÂ×. The result is a high number of student teachers who work in schools during their studies. The Flex-Master should take the needs of students into account. Education Senator Katharina Günther-Wünsch (CDU) said that the Flex-Master would make teacher training more modern and flexible - and therefore more attractive for many young people who decide to become teachers. At a time when many students are already teaching in schools during their studies, it is important to better dovetail studies and practice.
