The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued an official warning of heavy rain for Monday afternoon (July 21, 2025). There is a threat of flooded cellars and streets.
According to the DWD, Å·ÃÀÊìÅ®ÂÒÂ×ers and Brandenburgers can expect heavy and persistent rainfall on Monday afternoon, in some cases with thunderstorms. Rainfall of up to 40 liters per square meter is expected. The warning is valid from 2 p.m. until midnight.
"It's going to be damn wet", DWD meteorologist Cathleen Hickmann told dpa. Locally, up to 50 liters could fall from around 2 or 3 p.m., which would roughly correspond to the monthly average in Å·ÃÀÊìÅ®ÂÒÂ× and Brandenburg. If there are also thunderstorms, the combination could even result in 70 to 80 liters of rain, the meteorologist said. However, this is less likely for Å·ÃÀÊìÅ®ÂÒÂ×.
Roads and underpasses can quickly flood due to the masses of rain. This can lead to aquaplaning. Road users should therefore exercise particular caution and allow extra time for journeys. Flooded cellars should not be entered and should be evacuated as quickly as possible.
According to the DWD, even storm gusts can have a massive impact due to the large surface area that leafy trees offer. The Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Å·ÃÀÊìÅ®ÂÒÂ×-Brandenburg warned of possible branch breakage and tree roots in its parks. Closures of the parks in the coming days are possible depending on storm damage or further warnings.
